Privacy policy
Your notes never leave your phone.
Effective date: September 15, 2026 ยท Last updated: October 1, 2026
The short version: StudyBloom is a fully local app. There is no account, no server, and no company database behind it. Your notes, the flashcards and quizzes generated from them, and your XP, streaks, and badges are created and stored entirely on your device, including the AI that reads your notes and turns them into study material.
- Notes and photos you upload are processed on-device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. They are never sent to us or anyone else.
- We don't run analytics, crash trackers, or any other telemetry that reports back to us.
- We have no servers that store your study data. There's nothing to breach, sell, or hand over, because we never receive it.
1What stays on your device
StudyBloom needs certain information to work: simplified notes, flashcards, quiz questions, and your progress. All of it is created and kept locally, in the app's storage on your phone, using Apple's standard on-device app sandbox. None of the following is transmitted to StudyBloom, to Apple's servers, or to any third party as part of using the app:
| Data | What it's for | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Photos of notes, worksheets, or textbook pages you upload | Source material for generating simplified notes, flashcards, and quizzes | on-device only |
| Text you paste directly | An alternative to a photo upload, with the same on-device processing | on-device only |
| Generated notes, flashcards, and quiz questions | What you actually study from | on-device only |
| Tutor conversations | Follow-up questions you ask about a topic, and the explanations you get back | on-device only |
| Subjects, XP, streaks, growth stages, and badges | Tracking your progress and the garden metaphor that makes studying rewarding | on-device only |
| Quiz and flashcard answers | Scoring a round and awarding XP | on-device only |
We don't collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or any other personal information, because StudyBloom doesn't require or offer an account.
2How the AI works
StudyBloom uses Apple's Foundation Models framework, Apple's on-device large language model built into iOS, for every AI feature in the app:
- Notes: turning an uploaded photo or pasted block of text into simplified notes.
- Flashcards & quizzes: generating study questions and answers from those notes.
- Tutor: answering your follow-up questions and explaining a topic in more depth.
This processing happens entirely on your phone.
Nothing about your notes (the photo or pasted text, the generated study material, or your Tutor conversations) is sent to StudyBloom's developer, to Apple's cloud, or to any other server. The model runs locally using your device's own hardware, the same way Apple's other on-device intelligence features do. If your device doesn't support Apple Intelligence or the Foundation Models framework, these features simply aren't available. We don't fall back to a cloud AI service to fill the gap.
3What we don't do
No analytics
No usage tracking, no crash reporting, no session recordings, no third-party SDKs that phone home.
No servers
StudyBloom has no backend. There is no database of your notes, flashcards, or progress sitting anywhere but your device.
No accounts
Nothing to sign up for, so there's no email, password, or profile for us to store or lose.
No ads or selling data
We show no ads and have no advertising partners, so there's no data to package or sell in the first place.
4In-app purchases
StudyBloom offers an optional one-time purchase, Full Garden, which unlocks unlimited study sets and subjects. The purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment under your Apple Account and its own privacy policy; we never see or receive your name, payment details, or Apple Account information.
The app only checks with the App Store whether Full Garden has been purchased on your Apple Account, so it can unlock the feature and restore it on your other devices.
5Permissions we ask for
StudyBloom may ask for one or both of the following permissions. Each is used only for the purpose below, and only when you actively choose to upload something.
- Camera: to let you snap a photo of a notebook page, worksheet, or textbook directly inside the app.
- Photo library: to let you pick an existing photo of your notes to upload instead of taking a new one.
Pasting text and using the Tutor don't require any device permission. Images you select or capture, and text you paste, are used only to generate your study material on-device, as described above, and are not uploaded anywhere.
6Storage, backups & security
Your notes, flashcards, quizzes, and progress are stored in StudyBloom's private app storage on your device, protected by the same device-level security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, encryption) you already use to protect the rest of your phone.
If you have iCloud Backup or a similar device backup service turned on, iOS may include StudyBloom's local app data in that backup, the same way it backs up other apps on your phone. That backup is managed entirely by Apple under your own Apple Account. StudyBloom does not have a separate copy, and we do not operate or have access to any backup of your data.
7Children's privacy
StudyBloom is designed to be usable by students of any age, including children, precisely because it doesn't collect personal information from anyone. We don't knowingly collect, and are not able to collect, any personal information from children under 13 or any other user, because the app has no account system and sends no data to us. If you believe this policy should be clarified for a specific regulatory context (such as COPPA or GDPR-K), contact us using the details below.
8Your control over your data
Because everything lives on your device, you're always in direct control of it:
- Photos aren't kept after processing. A photo you capture or select is used only long enough to read the text on it. StudyBloom never saves the photo itself; only the recognized text and the study material generated from it are stored.
- To delete everything, delete the app. Since there's no server copy, removing the app removes your notes, flashcards, progress, and settings for good. One exception: a count of how many study sets you've created is kept in your device's Keychain so free sets aren't reset by reinstalling. It's a single number, stays on this device, and is never synced.
- To export or transfer data: since we hold no copy of your information, we have nothing to export on your behalf. Device backups (see above) are the mechanism for moving your data to a new phone.
9Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes such as introducing any form of data collection, describe the change clearly within the app before it takes effect.
